About ExcelAnalyzer
ExcelAnalyzer is a client-side workbook auditor. It reads a file in your browser and reports what is inside. It does not teach formulas, convert files, repair workbooks, or build dashboards. Umesh Manral is a data analyst and Excel automation specialist with 12+ years of experience. He publishes Excel walkthroughs on YouTube as @xlautomation.

How the audit score is calculated
The score starts at 100. Four pillars have fixed weights. Each matching rule deducts points from its pillar until that pillar’s weight is used up. Later rules on a full pillar stay visible and score zero. The published rules below are the same constants the engine uses.
| Pillar | Weight |
|---|---|
| File efficiency | 30 |
| Calculation speed | 25 |
| Structural integrity | 25 |
| Security hygiene | 20 |
| Rule | Pillar | Points | When it applies |
|---|---|---|---|
| size-50 | efficiency | 12 | File is 50 MB or larger (only the highest size band applies). |
| size-25 | efficiency | 8 | File is 25 MB or larger, and under 50 MB. |
| size-10 | efficiency | 5 | File is 10 MB or larger, and under 25 MB. |
| size-5 | efficiency | 3 | File is 5 MB or larger, and under 10 MB. |
| phantom-heavy | efficiency | 8 | A sheet dimension runs at least 1,000 rows past the last value, and at least five times further. |
| phantom-moderate | efficiency | 4 | A sheet dimension runs at least 100 rows or columns past the last value. |
| pivot-heavy | efficiency | 8 | Pivot cache records are over 8 MB or more than 20% of the package. |
| pivot-moderate | efficiency | 4 | Pivot cache records are over 1 MB or more than 5% of the package. |
| cf-heavy | efficiency | 6 | More than 500 conditional formatting rules, or more than 200 separate ranges. |
| cf-moderate | efficiency | 3 | More than 50 conditional formatting rules. |
| volatile-1000 | speed | 12 | More than 1,000 volatile function calls (only the highest band applies). |
| volatile-200 | speed | 8 | More than 200 volatile function calls. |
| volatile-50 | speed | 5 | More than 50 volatile function calls. |
| volatile-any | speed | 2 | At least one volatile function call. |
| whole-col-heavy | speed | 6 | More than 100 whole-column or whole-row references. |
| whole-col-any | speed | 3 | At least one whole-column or whole-row reference. |
| formula-100k | speed | 6 | More than 100,000 formulas. |
| formula-20k | speed | 3 | More than 20,000 formulas. |
| corrupt | integrity | 15 | The package is truncated, encrypted, or missing a required part, or a part is not well-formed XML. |
| ref-errors | integrity | 8 | At least one #REF! error. |
| other-errors | integrity | 4 | At least one other cached error, such as #VALUE! or #N/A. |
| broken-names | integrity | 5 | At least one defined name points at #REF!. |
| external-links | integrity | 4 | At least one external link. |
| macros | security | 8 | A VBA project is present. This is inventory, not a malware verdict. |
| auto-exec | security | 8 | An auto-start procedure name was found in the VBA project. |
| very-hidden | security | 6 | At least one very hidden sheet. |
| hidden | security | 2 | At least one hidden sheet and no very hidden sheet. |
Formats and limits
.xlsx and .xlsm are fully supported. .xlsb is partial: package size, sheet names, visibility, and VBA presence. .xls is not supported. Files over 250 MB are refused before they are parsed. Encrypted workbooks are reported as locked, and the password is never requested. Worksheet XML larger than 15 MB uncompressed is not scanned cell by cell.
